ASEAN Digital Innovation Programme (ADIP)

Empowering ASEAN Youth with Digital Skills

About the Programme

The ASEAN Digital Innovation Programme (ADIP) is a(n) (1) _______ between the ASEAN Foundation and Microsoft. It supports young people aged 15 to 35 by giving them access to quality training in digital skills and computer science education. Future Ready ASEAN Platform

Training is offered through both in-person sessions and the online learning site FutureReadyASEAN.org, introduced in May 2019. This platform allows students to learn at their own (3) _______ and receive certificates. Trainers can also design learning activities for their classes.

Achievements

On November 13, Vietnamese Ambassador to Australia Pham Hung Tam joined an online ceremony from Canberra to announce the schools chosen for the ASEAN–Australia BRIDGE School Partnerships Programme. (1) _______.

At the event, Ambassador Tam warmly congratulated the new partnership between Vietnam's Binh Phu High School and St Michael's Lutheran School in Australia. He noted that education is a key bridge (2) _______. These educational partnerships, he said, (3) _______.

The programme is run by the ASEAN–Australia Centre under the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and delivered by Asialink Education at the University of Melbourne. (4) _______ between Australian schools and schools in ASEAN member states.

In 2024, the programme connects a total of 18 schools. Each school appoints one teacher to join online professional development classes. After completing the training, the teacher passes the information on to colleagues, (5) _______, such as visits and teacher exchanges. Every school also selects eight students to take part in online meetings and group projects with students from the other participating schools.

Since the programme started in 2016, nearly 10 Vietnamese schools have taken part in the ASEAN–Australia BRIDGE School Partnerships Programme.

1. On October 29, 2025, the Embassy of Malaysia in Washington D.C. hosted ASEAN Cultural Day, offering travelers and culture enthusiasts a rare chance to experience Southeast Asia. The event, attended by diplomats, ambassadors' families, and visitors from various countries, turned the embassy into a vibrant space filled with regional traditions. The theme "Community in Celebration" highlighted ASEAN's unity and friendly spirit, creating an atmosphere that made guests feel as if they were immersed in a small version of Southeast Asia.

2. The event gave many people a meaningful chance to learn how Southeast Asian countries celebrate important occasions. The theme highlighted shared traditions, such as festivals, ceremonies, and family customs. Travelers familiar with the region recognized elements like the Lunar New Year and harvest festivals. The program emphasized the strong connection between culture and community across borders. Holding the event in Washington D.C. added a unique aspect, sharing Southeast Asia's vibrant spirit and cultural unity with a global audience.

3. Visitors to the embassy were greeted with music, vibrant colors, and lively performances, creating an atmosphere like a living art gallery. Each ASEAN country displayed its distinctive style, combining individuality and unity. Vietnam's main highlight was "Dancing with Thuy Ba Waves," a fashion show featuring the Nhat Binh Ao Dai, with smooth fabrics and detailed embroidery reflecting traditional craftsmanship.

4. Performances from Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Brunei, and Cambodia brought more cultural depth to the event. Each dance told a unique story, influenced by long-standing traditions. Guests enjoyed the contrast between Laos' gentle movements, Indonesia's lively steps, and Myanmar's detailed costumes linked to myths. Visitors found it memorable, as if they were traveling across Southeast Asia. The event also stimulated discussions, letting artists, embassy staff, and guests connect while exploring crafts, offering a welcoming cultural experience for all.

At the ASEAN Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Conference hosted by Malaysia, Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid bin Hamidi called for ASEAN member states to address the increasing demand for workers skilled in digital technologies and green transition capabilities. The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that it is crucial to equip the workforce with the necessary skills to meet modern challenges.

2. In his speech, Ahmad Zahid urged ASEAN countries to act swiftly in responding to market demands by improving policies that focus on skill development, involving employers as active partners, and offering training programs to enhance workers' abilities. [I] He emphasized that such measures would help ASEAN cultivate a future-ready workforce able to face global pressures and advance its position in the international TVET sector.

3. The Deputy Prime Minister also proposed the creation of an ASEAN Green and Digital Skills Task Force. This initiative aims to foster regional cooperation and ensure effective strategies for digital and green skills development. [II] By doing so, ASEAN countries can work together to tackle challenges and capitalize on opportunities arising from technological advancements and environmental changes.

4. Meanwhile, Malaysia's Human Resources Minister, Steven Sim Chee Keong, discussed the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the workforce. [III] He stressed the importance of focusing on skills in building, repairing, and managing systems that AI cannot handle. Sim suggested that TVET prioritize developing these practical skills to ensure workers remain relevant in the changing job market.

5. The conference focused on several key themes, such as promoting cross-border partnerships, aligning training with workforce needs, and fostering inclusive approaches to skills development. ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn also reinforced the need for strong collaboration between training institutions and industries to promote green skills. [IV] He warned that without decisive government action, skill gaps could hinder the region's economic growth and its leadership in the global green economy.
